  • Denomination: 1/40 Piastre
  • Composition: Bronze
  • Grade: Ungraded
  • Condition: I would grade this coin as uncirculated with all the details being well preserved. The coin has a nice patina and has lost most of its original mint luster. It has great eye appeal. The coin has a few bag marks and some minor dings to the rim. It is much better than the scan shows. It has no appreciable wear commensurate with its age and uncirculated status. The coin has excellent eye appeal and is beautiful. Please see photo for condition information.

    Details
    Description:
A great looking uncirculated bronze coin from Egypt. This is a one-fortieth of piastre or qirsh from the reign of Abdul Hamid II the Ottoman Sultan. The coin shows the sultan's tughra, a rose to the right of the tughra, the number 32 for the 32nd year of Abdul Hamid II's reign below it on the obverse. The reverse says Duribah Fi Misr (struck in Egypt) then the word Rub'a Min 'Ashr al Qirsh (quarter of a tenth of a qirsh) with Abdul Hamid accession year of 1293 AH below it and stars on both sides. It is KM-287 measuring approximately 17 mm in diameter and weighing 2 grams. The coin has a plain rim. Coins of such small denomination and small size are usually hard to come by in such a nice grade. They normally were used extensively by the people and were lost or severely abused. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.
